Obituary of Robert McKinnon

McKinnon, Robert Gordon Bob passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Hospice Wellington, Guelph, on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the age of 68 years. He was the loving husband of Anne (nee Hollywood) and the proud father of Mike (Nicolle) and Kelly Shock (Dr. Daniel). Bob remains the cherished Papa of Mitchell and Camille McKinnon, and Drew Shock. He is fondly remembered by his nephew Tim Povey (Dawn), niece Michelle Boehmer (Chad) and their families, as well as by his brother- in- law John Hollywood (Judy) and his nephews J.L. and Erin. He was pre-deceased by parents, Gord and Helen McKinnon, his sister Constance Povey and his brother Larry. Bob was a long-time employee of the City of Guelph Parks and Recreation Department where he accomplished many notable projects: he was involved in the transporting and mounting of "The Family" statue in downtown Guelph, the completion of the Timber Bridge, the rebuilding of the John Galt House which stands at Riverside Park, the maintenance of the wooden Carousel horses and the toy train that many children enjoy to this day, as well as the fabrication and hand making all of the park signs around the city of Guelph. Bob volunteered his time in the construction of the City of Guelph floats in the Santa Claus Parade. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Dore for his understanding and compassion as well as to the fourth floor staff at the Guelph General Hospital for their exceptional care.
