Helwig – Helen (Bunty) Louise (Smith)
Born 1926, Detroit, USA. Died July 28th, 2022, Waterloo, Ontario.
Beloved wife for 57 years of the late John (Jack) Helwig (2005). Loved mother of Dr. Steven Helwig (Peggy) of Huntsville Ontario and daughter Laurie Anderson (Jim) of Cozumel Mexico and deceased daughter Jane Emma, infant, (1955). Grandchildren Tanner Helwig (Cynthia), Stephanie Ashe, Griffin Helwig, Keil, Dillon (Meg), and Brodie (America) Anderson. Great grandchildren Sloane Helwig (Tanner), Chloe Ashe (Stephanie) and Kai Anderson (Dillon). Predeceased by brother Douglas Smith (2010) and Shirley Gilbert (John Gilbert) 2016. Sister-in-law Vicki Smith. Parents Laura Wolfenberg Smith (1990) and Harry Smith (1931). In-laws Emma and Harvie Helwig.
Bunty was an active and faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years and a member of Interchurch Council. She was recognized for her volunteer work in the community in 2001 with an Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteers in Ontario. In 2002, she received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for her years of service on the Meals on Wheels program of the Canadian Red Cross Society. Life member of the Guelph General Hospital Auxiliary.
Interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Woodlawn Road on Wednesday, August 3rd at 11 am. Officiating, Rev. Jeffrey B. Smith, nephew. Family members are invited to attend. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society, All Saint's Lutheran Anglican Church Memorial Fund (formerly St. Paul’s) or a charity of your choice.
