Obituary of Bernice Simpson

SIMPSON, Margaret Bernice (nee McMackon) ~ Bernice passed away peacefully with her 3 daughters at her side on Sunday June 16, 2013 in Guelph, Ontario at the age of 94 years. She resided in KirklandLake for 65 years, summered at LakeKenogami for 43 years, and had recently moved to Guelph. Born in SunnidaleTownship near Angus, Ontario October 30, 1918, second daughter of the late Walter Angus McMackon and Clifford (Cliffie) McKever. Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Archie MacGregor Simpson in 1998, and her younger sister Dorothy Woodrow in 1989. Survived by daughters, Mary Lynne of Guelph, Joan of Ottawa (Jim Pryor), and Janet of Winnipeg (Michael Weinrath), and grandchildren Gillian Weinrath of Calgary (Matt Jowett), and Ted Weinrath of Winnipeg, and sister Evelyn Robertson of Bobcaygeon. Fondly remembered by sisters-in-laws, cousins and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Linda McNabb Hall. Graduated from Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing (Barrie) in 1941, and Public Health Nursing at University of Toronto in 1945. Then worked for the Timiskaming Health Unit) until she retired except to raise her family. Bernice and Archie enjoyed travels across Canada, the US and Europe. Highlights were the many visits with grandchildren at LakeKenogami, and Christmases in the west. An active long-time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in KirklandLake, she was the organist for many years. Traditional rug hooking and swimming enriched her life. Her community was always important.
