Obituary of June Alma Leslie

Leslie June Alma (nee Philpott) August 26, 1922 ~ August 9, 2019 June died peacefully at Eden House with her son, Jim Leslie (Lynne Musselman) and daughter, Lynn Gladstone (Merv McCartney) at her side. She was also surrounded by the love and care of the wonderful staff at Eden House, where she spent the final 3 years of her life. June’s husband and best friend Clarence "Toad" Leslie predeceased her in 2005. They began their lives together in Morriston and Aberfoyle when June’s dad Lorne Philpott and her mom Alma and brother Jim began a life in the general store. The Leslie’s were farmers close to Duff’s Presbyterian Church where much of their earlier lives were spent. They moved to south Guelph when Toad returned from overseas. He retired from the G.T.C. and June from Cooke and Dennison after spending 37 years as their bookkeeper and honourary treasurer. June played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren: Laura Gladstone, Terry (Bill), Jason Leslie, Andrew Gladstone (Robyn), Kathryn Church (Ryan), Christopher Leslie, Nikita Lindsay (Jesse) and J.D. Vandonk (Mel). She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren. Her pets were cherished! June lived her dream of seeing most of the world. Family and friends played an integral part in a life well-lived. Sixty years of theatre going, Sunday services at Knox Presbyterian Church, bridge, euchre, dancing, aerobics, curling, golfing, piano playing, swimming, walking, entertaining at home, shopping for the latest in fashion (especially shoes) and home décor. She and Toad used one hand to care for themselves and the other hand to care for others. She has left us a legacy that we will endeavour to fulfill. Funeral service will be held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow service then private family interment at Crown Cemetery.
