Margaret Dredge

Obituary of Margaret Dredge

Dredge, Margaret Dorothy (nee McGillivray) 1924 – 2019 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven …. Ecclesiates 3 On October 14, 2019 in her 96th year, beloved wife of the late Clarence Harvey Dredge, our much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at Northland Pointe Nursing Home, Port Colborne. Margaret was not alone when she started out on her final journey. She was with her family and surrounded by the caring staff of Northland Pointe who deserve the greatest praise for their devoted care. Grieving for Margaret in her immediate family are her daughters Dorothy (Peter) and Karen (Arved); grandchildren Zachary, Matthew (Laura), Karinna, Thor (Angela) and Kirsten (Grant); and great grandchildren Kaie, Johannes, Udo, Aurelia, August and Reiker. Predeceased by her sisters Kay, Irene, Ruthe and brother Percy, Margaret will be missed and fondly remembered by her sisters Vera and Eleanor as well as many nieces and nephews in her family and members of her husband Tim’s extended family. Before moving to Port Colborne to be closer to family, Margaret had led an active life, working for 35 years at the Children’s Aid Society of Guelph and Wellington until she retired in 1989, after which she volunteered as a tour organizer for seniors. Everyone Margaret came into contact with professionally and socially, held her in the highest esteem, as did her family. Margaret was born in a snowstorm on May 20, 1924 in Egremont Township, just north of Guelph. As she grew up, she was imbued with the admirable pioneer values, now all too rare, of self-reliance, rugged steadfastness, frugality, loyalty and honesty. In short, never shrinking away from her responsibilities to her family, her community, and, indeed, her country. When tested by life’s vicissitudes, she prevailed and was unfailing in her devotion to her husband Tim and her family. Margaret will be missed by all of us. With her passing, however, we are reminded that in life there is death; and, we can hear Margaret’s spirit calling to us, ’Get on with it’. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service and Interment will take place at Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church, 3097–15 Sideroad, Campbellville, Ontario on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. ‘Don't be late,’ we can once again hear Margaret’s spirit invoking us, ‘and stay for lunch!’ If Desired, memorial contributions to MS Society or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
