Obituary of Nancy Thomson

Thomson, Nancy Eileen March 25, 1931 – November 19, 2019 Passed away peacefully at the Village of Riverside Glen LTC, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the age of 88. Beloved wife, soul mate and best friend of the late John D. Thomson (2017). Loving mother of Rick, Martha Charron and Bob (Sally). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Angela, Shelby (Ron Druckenmiller), Andrea (Matt Goren), Ben (Larissa Lindblad), Adam and Evan; great grandchildren, Parker, Layne, Oliver and Vivian. Predeceased by her parents, her sister Mary, brother and sister in-law John (Leona) and her daughter in-law Judy. In her day, Nancy was involved with the Girl Guides of Canada, a member of the Edward Johnson Chapter IODE, a 30-year volunteer at the Guelph General Hospital. She co-established Uncle Tom’s Cabin Museum in Dresden in 1964 and in later years she co-owned with John the Handicraft House Trading Post in Wiarton. She enjoyed her retirement with John at the winter home at Sun City, Arizona and they travelled extensively around the world visiting 75 countries. She found great pleasure doing China painting and bird watching, as well as her great enjoyment spending time with all her grandchildren. Nancy was active organizing musical ensembles and fashion shows for the residences in the retirement community. Nancy was also keen advocate to the provincial government to promote long term care of married couples to be in same room. She experienced the stress and anxiety of this firsthand when she and John had to be in separate rooms. Changes have been made to accommodate this on following legislation to benefit future couples. Friends are invited to the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph onSunday, November 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment Stone United Church Cemetery.
