GRIFFIN, Gerald ~ Died peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the age of 90. Kind and loving father of David Griffin (Camille Bedwell) of Fruitvale, BC, Dawn Griffin (Brett Thorpe) of Fort St. John, BC, Amanda Griffin (Nathan Dunn) of Guelph and Andrew Griffin of Kanata, ON. Proud and loving Grandad of Jennifer, Simon and Andrew. Dear brother of Keith Griffin of Bolton, UK and Delia Blacow (Harold) of Dundas. Loved Uncle to Gordon and Wendy Blacow and their family. Remembered by cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary Griffin; siblings Andrew, Charlie, Hazel, Margaret, Jean, niece Sharon Blacow, sisters in-law Doris and Connie and brother in-law Bob. Thank you to Auntie Delia and friends Kerry and Jackie for being there for Gerry and a thank you to Village of Riverside Glen and The Elliott for taking such good care of our Dad. Gerald was an electrician for the British Royal Air Force in England. After emigrating to Canada, he became an electrician with the United Steel Workers of Canada then eventually became their union negotiator. He moved and continued to be a negotiator for OPSEU for 35+ years. After retirement, he was active as a part time fitness instructor for the YMCA -YWCA of Guelph and a soccer coach. He will be remembered for fighting tooth and nail for equal rights for women and for his wonderful sense of humour. Friends are invited to meet the family in the Trillium room at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA -YWCA of Guelph.
