Saunders Valerie (née McPhilemy)

 

It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Valerie Jean Saunders on November 19 2020 in her 78th year.

 

Beloved wife of 40 years to the late Stan (2000) She was a loving mother to Christinia Mutter (Brant) of Fergus, Stanley (Tony) of Kingston, Scott of Guelph and Michelle (Stephen) of Orillia.

 

Grandma to Candice Hibbs (Brett) of Guelph, Brittnee McConaughy of Guelph, Stanley (Stephanie) of Guelph, Amanda Green (JG) of Cambridge, Victoria Glowik (Ryan), Alex of Guelph, Ashley Cleaveley of Orillia, Michael Cleaveley (Crystal) of Waubeseen, Shantelle Weese of Bracebridge.Valerie was a great-grandma to Persephone Hibbs, Saffron Hibbs, Fin McConaughy, Kaylee Saunders, Paiton Saunders, Olivia Saunders, Stanley jr Saunders, Nathaniel Green, Hayley Green, Tyler Green, Hanna Glowik. She was also sister-in-law to Shirley Paige of Bracebridge.

 

Predeceased by her parents Charlie and Illeen McPhilemy of Ullswater, brother John of Colberg, sister Ethel Johnson of Cambridge and nephews and nieces and in-laws.

 

Valerie was the baby of her family born in Utterson, Muskoka July 26,1942 at a whopping 12 pounds. She was affectionally know as "Bunny" because when she smiled her nose crinkled up like a bunny. Valerie and her husband met in high school and also working at the grand opening of Santa’s Village in Bracebridge, she was a souvenir girl and Stan was a pony rider’s assistant. They got married in Bracebridge and had the two oldest children there then moved to Cambridge for about 15 years and two more children and many friends who are still connected, then moved back to Muskoka (Orillia) for 10 years.

 

Last stop was to Guelph where she lived to her last day, Valerie lived at College Place Retirement Home for about 10 months, where she made many friends. Valerie loved find a word, scandal magazines but specially chatting with anyone and everyone she met. Family and friends know her for her scrumptious cabbage rolls, which would have a line up at her door for a taste.

 

Valerie will be dearly missed and always in our hearts. A private family gathering will be held at GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph. Cremation will then take place, with burial of cremated remains in Bracebridge at a later date. Memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
