Obituary of Barbara Elizabeth Wood

WOOD, Barbara Elizabeth Passed away at home on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 82 years. Beloved wife of the late Ronald Wood (2002). Loving mother of Geoffrey Wood (Mary-Claire Kavanagh) of Guelph, Roly Wood (Kerri) of Waterloo and aunt of Steve Newell (Lynn) of Owen Sound. Proud grandmother of Sarah, Laura (Andrew), Liam, Theo, Rory, Mabel and June. Dear sister of Dorothy Clayton, Gwen Prentice and Bob Howes. Barb will be fondly remembered by her foster children Pon and Amon, her many nieces and nephews, and her friends and the community at the Village of Arbour Trails. Predeceased by infant son Richard Wood and siblings Mary and Bill. Born in Kirkland Lake, Barb was a varsity athlete in multiple sports at Queen’s University, taught high school in Peterborough, refereed basketball and volleyball, and later ran a bed and breakfast. She helped raise many foster children through the Children’s Aid Society and was an avid gardener in her spare time. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Barb’s life will be at St. George's Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich Street, Guelph on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions to the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society 1-800-661-2843, Diabetes Canada 1-800-226-8464, or the OVC Pet Trust 519-824-4120x56495 would be appreciated.
