Obituary of Constance Nicoll
NICOLL, Constance (nee Phillips)
of Elora, Woodbridge and Weston, passed away peacefully at Eden House in Eden Mills on Nov 2, 2022 of natural causes in her 101st year. (Sept 2, 1922 – Nov 2, 2022)
Known for her gracious and friendly compassionate nature, she will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. Constance (Connie) always greeted others with a big smile and a cheerful genial attitude.
Predeceased by Husband Ken (Cyril), sons Philip and Douglas, brothers Laurence, Leslie, Walter, and Norman, sisters Mabel and Helen. Connie is survived by sons David and James, along with grandchildren James, Matthew, Sarah, Jennifer and Mara.
Connie worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in the early 60’s and again for Aramco in Saudi Arabia in the early 80’s where husband Ken was employed for 3 years. Connie also worked as a guide at McMichael’s Art Gallery in Kleinburg Ontario. Known for her near perfect grammar and spelling, she was often asked to help with editing and composing. After raising four sons and working hard all of her life, she travelled to Italy for three months to advance her knowledge of Italian history and culture, and to study the Italian language. It wasn’t uncommon for Connie to walk the 4-5 miles each way into town to take care of various errands. She was frequently offered rides that she always turned down as she enjoyed the exercise and the time to herself.
A graveside service will be held for the interment of her ashes along with the ashes of her late husband Ken Nicoll (married 65 years).
Arrangements entrusted to Gilchrist Chapel McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (519-824-0031). We invite you to leave your memories online at: www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
