Obituary of Akke Metzlar

Metzlar, Akke ~ Went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the age of 101 years. She is survived by her children: Mary Lee and John Stennett, Alice and David Horrocks, Philip and Gerty Metzlar, Lyn and Stan Leyenhorst, Teresa and Howard van Esch, 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and her brother Sjoerd (Miep) de Walle. Akke is predeceased by her husband Hendrik, her son Alle, two infant sons, three brothers and two sisters. "I don’t know what the LORD still has in store for me….," Mom often pondered aloud as the years went by. The eldest of seven, Mom took her responsibilities very seriously. At the young age of 12, she worked in farmers’ fields alongside her father to provide for the family. She was involved in the Dutch Underground during WWII as a courier, and even had to go into hiding for a period of time. In 1951, just before Christmas, and five months pregnant, she moved to a new home, in a New World, living a pioneer life in Northern Ontario for a while, finally settling on a farm near Matheson. There she raised six children, and numerous orphan animals. Church was always of utmost importance. She was fiercely loyal to her husband, and just loved to be with her grandchildren. She always wanted to know that they were going to church, and often asked them whether one of them would become a minister. So, what the LORD had in store for her was 101 years of faithful service to Him and to her family.
