Obituary of Philip Nicholas Parkes
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Parkes, of Rockwood, Ontario, at the age of 42. Philip died on September 15, 2023, following a massive stroke. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend, Meredith Parkes (Allum), his mother and father, Suzanne and Nicholas Parkes of Lyn, Ontario, his brother Stephen Parkes and wife Deborah of West Lorne, Ontario, and many cherished friends and additional family members. Philip attended Elmira District Secondary School and spent his working life as a dressage coach, trainer and rider. He was a co-host of The Dressage Radio Show podcast and was known for his compassion and kindness and his love of horses, sports and good times. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, students and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation or The Owl Foundation, Vineland, Ontario, be considered. Heartfelt Thanks go out to friends, family and colleagues for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and to staff of the Neuro ICU at Hamilton General Hospital and the Trillium Gift of Life Network for making possible the successful donation of Phil’s organs to three people in need.
A Celebration of Life for Philip Parkes will be held as a drop-in event at Barn Swallow Fields (at Thatcher Farms), 5727 5th Line, Rockwood, ON N0B 2K0 on Sunday, October 15th from 1pm to 4pm. with a Tribute to be shared at 1:30pm. Those attending are welcome to come for all or just part of the afternoon. Dress code is casual to business casual. Children are welcome Light refreshments will be served. Arrangements under the direction of the Brombal Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph.
