Obituary of Marika Gakis

Marika quietly passed away on August 20 2012, in Saskatoon. She was born May 18, 1919 in Agios Pantelimon, Florina, Greece. Marika is predeceased by her husband Kostandine (1947) and is the last of ten siblings. Survived by her son Chris (Slobodanka), granddaughter Patricia of Saskatoon, grandson Dean of Calgary and several nieces and nephews, mostly in Ontario and Greece. Coming to Canada in 1948 to live in Guelph, Marika began working at the Royal Dairy, Colonial Dresses and Royal Knitting when she retired. She was a member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, Guelph and a 50 year member Philoptochos Greek Ladies Society. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28). Vigil prayers at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with Father Vassilios Stavropoulos. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 50 Dovercliffe Dr., Guelph. Following the service, interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
