Obituary of William Forsythe
Forsythe, William G. 1930 – 2015 ~ It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Forsythe on October 25th after a lengthy illness. Bill was born April 17, 1930 in Kingston, son of the deceased Reta (Green) and Allan Forsythe. Loving husband of Jeanne. Cherished Dad of Heather and proud Grandpa of Meaghan and Maureen. Predeceased by brothers Kenneth and Harold and first wife (Bonnie West). Lovingly remembered by his sisters in law and brothers in law and nieces and nephews. Bill graduated from Queen’s University with Honours BA (Mathematics) in 1954. His career included Mathematics teacher and Head of Mathematics Department and Vice Principal at Waterloo C.I.; District School Inspector with Ministry of Education serving Dufferin, Grey, Waterloo, and Wellington Counties; Superintendent of Secondary Schools at Guelph District Board of Education, and Superintendent of Human Resources, Deputy Director, and finally was appointed in 1976 as Director of Education for Wellington County Board of Education, now known as Upper Grand District School Board. Upon retirement in 1989, he was appointed mediator with the Education Relations Commission with the Ministry of Education for four years.
Bill had a rich, fulfilling life as a committed Rotarian, serving as chairman of several committees; a marathon runner; constant servant to the community; and a faithful member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Guelph. He was the recipient of the "Order of Niagara" in 2004. Bill was an inveterate lover of nature, sports and music, traveler, respectful leader and mentor, voice of reason and above all a very loving, generous family man and friend. In all he did, Bill epitomized the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self". Grateful thanks to many health care providers, more particularly the staff at the Village of Riverside Glen, Guelph and for the care and kindness of family and friends. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich Street, Guelph on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. George’s Anglican Church Music Fund, Upper Grand Learning Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Gilchrist Chapel – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (519-824-0031). We invite you to leave your memories and donations on line.
