Obituary of John "Rowan" MacDonald

JOHN ROWAN MACDONALD ~ Rowan left us on November 28th at Guelph General Hospital. He had a full and happy long life – he was 87 years of age and will be lovingly remember for his sense of humour and his joi-de-vivre! He was the happiest when he was yachting with his mentor and great friend, Bob Grant in many races and was very proud to compete in the Olympics in 1952 in Helsinki. He was a life-time member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. He spent many years as publisher/editor with Southam Business Publications and retired in 1991. He also loved sitting on the back deck of our cottage in Port Perry and looking at the lake! He will be greatly missed by his wife Sylvia, daughter Charlotte, son-in-law Jason and his three wonderful grandchildren – also his brother Bill and his sisters Anne and Ruth and all his many nephews and nieces. A celebration of his life will take place Jan. 8 at Holy Rosary Church, 354 St. Clair Ave. W. York, ON at 10 a.m. Their telephone number is 416-923-8471. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online.
