Obituary of John Gilbert

Gilbert, John William ~ Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Friday, December 6, 2013, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Shirley Gilbert (Smith). Loving father of Mark & Lois Gilbert of Moscow, Russia, and proud grandfather of Natasha Gilbert of Toronto. Fondly remembered by his sisters in-law: Bunty Helwig of Guelph, Vicky Smith of Ottawa, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Predeceased by his sisters Lillian Kirkham and Bette Daminato. John proudly served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the second world war. He was a long standing member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a member for over 63 years of Speed Lodge, A.F & A.M. No. 180, GRC; The York Rite, 1st Principal (Royal Arch Masons), Preceptor (Knights Templar), member of the Guelph & District Shrine Club and the Col. John McCrae Branch 234, Royal Canadian Legion. Cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 210 Silvercreek Pkwy North Guelph on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, (from 10 am to 11 am). A masonic service will take place at 11:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 11:15 a.m. Reception to follow services at the church. Inurnment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph. Memorial contributions to Shriner’s Childrens Hospital or to the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated.
