Obituary of Kathleen Eva Baukham

BAUKHAM, KATHLEEN EVA (Kay), nee Townsend ~ Passed away peacefully at Morriston Park Nursing Home, Morriston, Ontario with family at her side, on January 18, 2015 at the age of 94. Kay was the beloved wife of George Baukham, M.B.E. (1991). She was the loving mother of George and his wife Jane, and beloved Nana of grandson Andrew (Clare) and granddaughter Caitlin (Michael Young). Kay was predeceased by her parents Harry and Emma, brothers Eric, Lionel and Ronald and sister Doreen, who all resided in England. She is survived by several nieces and nephews who reside in England and Wales. Kay was born in London, England and spent her early life there. With the outbreak of World War II, she enlisted in the British Royal Air Force (RAF). She was very proud of her contributions in the deployment and use of radar in the war effort. Following WWII, Kay and George travelled from Europe, through Southeast Asia, and settled in George’s birthplace of China. Changing political events resulted in their relocation after a few years to their new home country of Canada, where they spent the rest of their lives. Kay loved time spent at her home in Guelph, with relatives on her summer trips back to England, and at the cottage in Parry Sound. Kay will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, and her devotion and love for her family. A very special thank you to the staff at Morriston Park Nursing Home, for their wonderful loving care for Kay in her final years. A private family graveside service was conducted by Reverend Canon Jean Mitchell on January 22, 2015, followed by Kay’s interment in the family plot at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph, Ontario. Expressions of sympathy made in Kay’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements were entrusted to Gilchrist Chapel, McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, Guelph, Ontario. We invite you to leave your memories and donations on line at www.gilchristchapel.com.
