Obituary of John Merritt

Passed away, with family by his side at the Guelph General Hospital on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the age of 78 years. After a brief battle with cancer, John went peacefully to receive his inheritance in Heaven. Beloved husband of 57 years and 11 months to Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (nee Yurchuk). Devoted father of John (René), Bruce (Karen) and Paul (Kelley). Incredibly proud grandfather, with 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of David (Marilyn), Donald and Daniel (Beverley). John loved to meet and talk with people both as a long time employee of the City of Guelph, serving as deputy treasurer and treasurer for many years, and while working alongside Betty at Candies of Merritt. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL - McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Monday August 31 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, 1320 Gordon St. S., Guelph on Tuesday September 1, 2015 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception, then interment at Pleasantville Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2250 Highway 20 W., Fonthill.
