Obituary of Ruth Curry

Curry, Ruth Lois (nee Chambers) Ruth Lois Curry passed away peacefully with family by her side at Hospice Wellington, November 12, 2016, in her 90th year. She was a loving mother to her children June Hofland (Peter) and Jack Curry, proud and cherished grandmother of Jordan Hofland. Predeceased by her husband Lincoln Stanley (1993), her parents Isabelle and William Chambers, step-father Rudy Radke, and by her brothers William and Albert Chambers. Ruth will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Gwen Chambers, brothers-in-law, Bill Curry (Sylvia), Bob Curry (Rose) and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born Oct. 13, 1927 in Southampton, Ruth married Lincoln Stanley Curry in Guelph on June 18, 1949. In 1958, the couple opened Linc’s Coffee Bar, a popular Guelph restaurant serving devoted customers until 1984. Following her husband’s passing in 1993, she avidly dedicated herself as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" (1994). Further honoured for 10 years of "loyal and valuable service" in April of 2003. In the intervening years, she loved to garden, make decorative crafts and enjoy time spent on her patio in the company of friends. Ruth’s life was a testament to her deep-seated will to persevere. With a beautiful smile, playful spirit, and selfless giving, she will remain, in memory, an inspiration to family and friends. Ruth Lois Curry died of natural causes, clear of mind, with quiet moments softly singing "Jesus loves me, this I know". The family wishes to add a gracious thank you to the loving staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington and the Norfolk Manor Retirement Residence, Guelph. A private burial has been held at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, (519-824-0031).
