Thomson, John Douglas April 22, 1930 – December 2, 2017 Passed away peacefully at the Village of Riverside Glen LTC on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in his 88th year. John leaves behind his best friend, soul mate and devoted wife of 63 years, Nancy (nee Loree); their children Rick (the late Judy), Martha Charron, and Bob (Sally). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Angela, Shelby (Ron), Andrea (Matt), Ben (Larissa), Adam and Evan. He was the great Poppa to Parker, Layne and Oliver. Predeceased by his parents Archibald and Lillian and his brother Mac. John had a great flare for business in the tourism industry. He established Uncle Tom’s Cabin Museum in Dresden; published tourist magazines and co-owned a large gift shop with Nancy on the Bruce Penninsula as well as other ventures. He enjoyed retirement with Nancy at their winter home in Arizona for 22 years. He led hiking club treks in the mountains; did wood carving and enjoyed dancing. He and Nancy also travelled extensively, visiting 75 countries over the years. His family will miss John’s sense of humour, wisdom and guidance. To honour John and his feline friend Binklee, donations to the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated. Also since John loved happy colours, the family would like to invite guests to wear cheerful clothes when they visit. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday). Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Stone United Church Cemetery.
