Obituary of Helen Ackerman

Born January 5, 1933 in Airdrie, Scotland, passed away in her 83rd year on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Guelph General Hospital surrounded by her family after a 20 year battle with cancer. Helen immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Montreal at the age of 24 with her friend Marjorie Christie. Montreal is where Helen met her beloved husband to be Robert (Bob) Henry Ackerman married 58 years. Helen and Robert moved eventually to Guelph where she raised and was a dear mother to Jane Ackerman of North Vancouver, BC, Susan Skidmore (Art) and Neil Ackerman (Aireen Ganzon) all of Guelph. Loving Grandma to Lindsay and Brendan Skidmore and Josh and Lauren Ackerman. Helen had a long working career in Guelph starting at the Right House and ending with the Cooperators. Helen loved life with her family here and abroad. She travelled and experienced the world with Bob in all directions of the globe. Helen inspired all her children to succeed in life and follow in her footsteps. Friends may meet the family for an informal gathering and remembrance of Helen’s life at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Thursday, September 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At Helen’s request, a private family memorial service will be held with inurnment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society-Wellington County Unit or to the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated.
