Farmer, Marguerite (nee Rooney), peacefully at The Elliott Home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Beloved wife for over 68 years of the late Dr. H. Frank Farmer (March 10, 2013). Loving mother of Frances Pilon (Eric) of Burlington, Roslyn Farmer of Thornhill, Joanna Farmer (Gordon Hebert) of Montreal and Jocelyn Farmer Proulx (Normand) of Richmond Hill. Proud grandmother of Bradley Pilon (Heather Foster), Chris Pilon (Kristen Garringer), Meghann Proulx, Alex Proulx, Louis-Philippe Normand and Elizabeth Normand. Great grandmother of Brier, Ro and Easton. Marguerite was a proud 8th generation Canadian of Irish, Scot and French heritage. Born in Lancaster, Ontario in Glengarry County, September 15th, 1922, the only child of William (Cully) Rooney and Myrtle Deruchie. Educated in Montreal she worked for Allied War Supplies during WWII, then joined the Montreal Military Hospital as private secretary to Dr. Wilder Penfield, Canada’s preeminent neurosurgeon. She married Frank Farmer, a McGill medical student from Barbados and moved to Guelph in 1950 where he started his surgical practice. They had four daughters, Frances, Roslyn, Joanna, and Jocelyn. In addition to running a very busy household, Marguerite was very active in the Conservative Party and served as a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph on Thursday (from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.). Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 161 Norfolk Street, Guelph on Friday July 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online.
