Obituary of Meindert "Mike" Grutter
Passed away at Wellington Terrace, Fergus on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Mike was born in the city of Enschede, the Netherlands in 1924, being in the middle of four brothers and two sisters. He always knew he wanted to be a carpenter and at age 14, got his first job. He loved to spend time outside and working with wood. He was a true craftsman, able to build both homes and furniture. The ages 18 to 21 were spent in Germany during the war. Then, at the age of 28, Mike married Lammigje "Lynn" Feyer and immigrated to Canada later that year (1952). They lived in Toronto, where they had three children; Peter, Anne and Catherine. Guelph became home in 1973. Much later, in 2000, Mike and Lynn moved to Holland Christian Homes in Brampton and this is where Lynn passed away. Mike then moved to back to Guelph in 2011 to be closer to his family. He is fondly remembered by his children, their spouses and by his grandchildren; Rebecca, Alex (Karen), Aaron and many nieces and nephews.
