Obituary of Dorothy Noël Thomson

Thomson, Dorothy Noël (née Thompson) In her 89th year, Noël passed away peacefully surrounded by her four daughters, on Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Guelph, Ontario. She joins her husband of 64 years, Christian Ross Thomson, who passed away May 1, 2018. They are survived by daughters (and husbands); Joanne (Stephen Locke) of Florida, Christine (Dave McCorquodale) of Nova Scotia, Karen (Romeo Fracassi) of Ontario and Sarah (Ted Gooding) of Alberta, as well as her eight grandchildren; Geoffrey & Daniel Locke, Megan & Eric McCorquodale, Paul & Katharine Beaton, and Alison & Ian Gooding. She is also survived by her brother Roger Thompson (Ana) of Oakville, Ontario, sister-in-law Katharine Martin (late Paul) of Barrie, Ontario, step-brother-in-law Kenneth Balchin (Sheilah) of Ottawa, Ontario, eight nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. Born on Dec 14, 1929 in Hamilton, Ontario, Noël attended Westdale Collegiate (Hamilton) and Glebe Collegiate (Ottawa). While studying political science at Carleton College (now Carleton University, Ottawa), she served on the Student Council, and met her future husband Ross. Noël was a Mary Kay consultant, as well as a long-time Sears Canada (Ottawa) employee where she nurtured her interest in interior decorating and finance. She was lucky to spend her retirement years living in Australia (2 years), then setting up a new home in Guelph, playing bridge and traveling with Ross. Her daughters will be pleased to receive extended family, friends and the Elliott community for a visitation on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 1 - 4 p.m. in the Main Chapel Dining Room, The Elliott Community, 172 Metcalfe Street, Guelph, Ontario. Interment and family service will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Magog, Quebec in June 2020. Special thanks go to the wonderful women at ‘Friends of the Family’ for caring for mom these past several years and becoming her cherished friends.
