Obituary of Peggy Christine Reading

Peacefully at Eden House Care Facility on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at the age of 103. Born and raised in Oslo, Norway to Alex W. Hansen and Anne Marie Bjelkevik, Peggy eventually immigrated to Canada, arriving via Montreal in the early 1950’s, and then settling in Guelph. From 1961, Peggy was a Faculty Associate in Music at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec where she received her Licentiate in Music for Performance in 1964. She moved to Guelph, where she became a piano teacher for the Suzuki School of Music around 1966. Peggy participated in a performing TRIO and within the Musical Matrons (M&M’s), an old network of musicians in Guelph and Elora. She was also well known at the Guelph Humane Society for her love and care for animals and nature. Peggy is survived by her cousin Ashild Mostad of Norway and many dear friends. Predeceased by her sister Dagny Hansen (1969). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich Street, Guelph, on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Canon B. Jean Mitchell. Inurnment in Gamlebyen Cemetery, Oslo, Norway. Arrangements entrusted to the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, 519-824-0031.
