Obituary of Guerrino Angelo Cremasco

Cremasco – Guerrino Angelo passed away in the early hours of July 31, 2026, with his wife of close to sixty years, Elena Cremaso, by his side at Hospice Wellington in Guelph Ontario. Since October, Elena was a constant by his side, his primary caregiver, and tireless advocate attending to his every need.

Angelo was the devoted husband of Elena (Tedesco) Cremasco, father to Paolo (Louise), Cathy (Darren) and Debora. Nonno to Scott Cremasco, Natalie Cremasco, Isabella Chappel and Alexander Chappel. Beloved uncle and Godfather to many both here in Canada and in Italy. He is predeceased by his mother and father Catarina and Paolo Cremasco, sisters Gina (Alvese) and Maria (Germano) and brother Cesare (Agnese).

He was born on August 8,1940, in San Zenone Degli Ezzellini, Trevsio Italy during World War II, an event shaped many of his early memories and created a special bond with his older sister Maria (Bortolon) who would take him into the surrounding foothills and forests to hide. He later served two years as an “Alpino” in the Italian miliary where he learned the trade of machinist and developed a dislike of tent camping.

In 1965, Angelo immigrated to Canada with little more than a suitcase and dreams of a better life. Upon arriving in Canada, he lived with his sister Maria (Germano) and their children (Lorenzo, Brian (Karen) and Anna (Larry) for two years. He knew Elena for many years, and they exchanged love letters. In April of 1967 he proposed and they were married in Guelph on October 28th, 1967. Together they created a life in Canada.

Angelo worked at Linamar Manufacturing from 1965 to 2005 as a general machinist and prototype designer. Angelo often boasted that he was Linamar employee “number 7”. Many others from his large circle of friends later joined him. The friends often spent Sunday afternoons together at Bingemans or at “the beach” creating memories and strong surrogate family ties.

Angelo dedicated much of his life to strengthening the bonds between the Italian and Canadian cultures. He was a respected leader within the Italian Canadian community, serving as President of “Gruppo Alpini” as well as a member of the Italian Canadian Club since 1965. He volunteered countless hours to preserve Italian traditions through bocce tournaments, picnics, Italian festivals all while embracing the new cultural, opportunities and experiences that Canada offered. He especially liked the Canada Day fireworks on the beach in Southampton where he and Elena spent much of their time in his retirement years. They loved a good nap on the beach followed by bocce with friends, children and grandchildren. His community leadership helped foster unity, cultural pride, and a sense of belonging for generations of Italian Canadians.

In Angelo’s home, all were welcome and offered a glass of homemade wine with a story, and words of wisdom. He loved playing cards and having a good laugh. He was infamous for his stories, and he relished hearing others’ stories. He would often say “I can’t believe it” or “you better believe it” in his Italian accent, a chuckle and a twinkle in his eye. He was a warm, caring, generous and affectionate man whose presence filled a room. He was passionate about wine, gardening, watching soccer, Formula One car racing (Ferrari) as well as watching his grandchildren’s organized sports. He was most passionate about his family and would generously give them his time, advice or food from his enormous garden. His absence will be deeply felt.
