Jane Sutherland

Obituary of Jane Frances Sutherland

SUTHERLAND, Jane.

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Jane Sutherland (Prior, Sibley) in her 84th year on June 7th, 2026. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Duncan Sutherland (2025), with whom she shared 37 wonderful years of marriage.

Jane will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Ken Fach; her grandchildren, Brittney Murray (Lorne) and Madison Fach (Liam McCormack); her great-grandchildren, Chase and Nash Murray; and her son, Michael Sibley (Nicole). She will also be fondly remembered by Duncan’s daughters, Monique Sutherland (Erik Turnhout) and Cynthia Stuart, and granddaughter, Chiadra Stuart.

Jane is survived by her brother, Donald Prior (Lorraine). She was predeceased by her parents, William and Dorothy Prior; her brothers, Kenneth and Clifford Prior; and her sisters, Marion Hayden and Doris Thomas.

Raised on Preston Street in Guelph, she developed a love of dance early in life. As owner and director of the Guelph Academy of Dance for 20 years, she helped shape the Royal City’s baton twirling talent and inspired many Ontario and Canadian champions. Later in life, her enduring love of children led her to volunteer in local schools, instilling kindness and service into the next generation.

Jane will be remembered for her humour, deep love for her family, and determination. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was fiercely proud of their accomplishments and loved sharing their stories with everyone she met. She especially cherished her great-grandchildren, and hearing their names always brought a smile to her face.

In recent years, Jane enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and The Young and the Restless from the comfort of her chair and chatting with the many health care workers who helped maintain her quality of life. Despite the challenges of her final years, she faced them with quiet strength and resilience. Jane leaves a deep void in her family’s lives, but her memory will remain forever in their hearts.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice Wellington for the care and comfort Jane received in her final days, and to the team at Chartwell Wellington for their friendship and kindness. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated in gratitude for the comfort provided during her final days.https://www.hospicewellington.org/donate
