Obituary of Margaret Brodie

Margaret "Marg" Brodie (née Weir)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret "Marg" Brodie (née Weir), who passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully after a brief illness on May 31, 2026, at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, in her 80th year.

Born on November 13, 1946, in Greenock, Scotland, Marg lived a life defined by strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. On March 20, 1965, she married the love of her life, Malcolm Brodie, beginning a partnership that would span more than sixty years. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1967, building a life filled with love, hard work, treasured friendships, and family memories.

Marg was the beloved wife of Malcolm and a devoted Mum to Doug (Christine), Cheryl (Trevor), and Kevin (Nancy). She was a cherished Grandma to Jonathon (Casey), Graham (Abby), Kyla (Will), Brodie, Breton, Rachael (Joe), and Taryn, and a proud step-grandmother to Nicholas, Owen (Haley), and Sara. She was a very special great-grandmother to Fletcher and Miles, who brought her endless pride and joy.

Marg was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Weir, her sister Jessie, and her brother Ian. She is remembered by her sister Jean (Andy), her sister-in-law Margaret Weir, and by her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Marg dedicated many years of service to Guelph General Hospital, working in Housekeeping. She became known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her kindness, warmth, and gift for conversation. Many will fondly remember the "wee chats" she shared with colleagues, friends, neighbours, and even strangers. Whether in the hallways of the hospital, at the campground, on the beach, or around the neighbourhood, Marg had a way of making people feel welcome, heard, and valued.

Retirement allowed Marg to spend more time enjoying the things she loved most. Summers were spent at Long Point Provincial Park and, more recently, Sandhill Campground, where she found happiness in the warmth of the sun, the beauty of flowers, the songs of birds, and the peace of the beach. Whether sitting by the water, tending flowers, visiting with friends, or enjoying time with family, these places became some of her happiest spaces.

Proud of her Scottish roots, Marg was known for her strength, determination, and fiercely protective nature. She loved her family deeply and never hesitated to stand up for those she loved. Her stubborn streak was well known, often admired, and occasionally the source of a smile. Affectionately nicknamed "Stumpy" by those closest to her, she carried herself with a spirit far larger than any nickname could capture. Her courage was evident throughout her life, and true to her character, she fought hard during her final days.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital for their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care. Special thanks are extended to nurses Blake, Sue, and Erika, whose support and dedication brought comfort to Marg and her family during an incredibly difficult time.

While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her, her family takes comfort in knowing that her love, wisdom, laughter, and strength will remain with them always. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

This is not goodbye, but simply until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Guelph Humane Society or to a charity of one's choice.
