Obituary of Linda Vlietstra

VLIETSTRA, Linda (nee Hammond)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Vlietstra. She passed peacefully on April, 5, 2026, Easter Sunday, surrounded by family at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.

Linda was the beloved wife of John for 55 years; and the much loved mother of Tina (Dave) and Ruthann (Matt). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jennifer (Ricky), Jessica (Braydon) and Matthew. Linda was blessed to have three beautiful great-granddaughters: Adeline, Ella and the precious little one, baby McKinley Maeve. McKinley brought a twinkle to her eyes until her very last moments.

Linda was born to her parents, late Ruth and late Joseph Hammond on January 26, 1951 in Guelph, where she lived her entire life. Survived by dear sisters Gail (late Jim) and Sandra (late Alan). She had many nieces and nephews whom she loved, with special mention to Tammy who understood dementia deeply and brought great joy and comfort to her.

Linda was a hard worker – she worked hard and played hard – she cherished a simple afternoon or evening with family and friends playing music with a cold bottle of beer in her freshly cleaned home. She always enjoyed a ‘good time.’

She had many good times and memories with best friend Elaine (Bob) Millson and Anne Near. Her circle was small but she loved ‘her people’ and would do anything for them.

Spread your wings Linda and fly with all the angels! Forever loved – our guardian angel.

Thank you to the 6/7th floor nurses and doctors at Guelph General Hospital and the palliative team at St. Joseph’s for the high level of care.

A private family interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
