MAYES, William Thomas (Tom).
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of William Thomas (Tom) Mayes on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Riverside Glen Long Term Care. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
In accordance with Tom’s wishes, this announcement was delayed until cremation and a private service had taken place on March 25th.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage until her passing in 1988. He was also predeceased by his son Glen (2008) and his daughter‑in‑law Barb (2024). He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children: Sharon Mikel, Sandra Gibbons (Greg), and Paul (Barb).
Tom’s legacy continues through his grandchildren—Courtney, Rachel, Scott (Katy), Kelsey (Cody), Rebecca, Kurt (Shannon), Sarah (Albert), Brooke, Renee (Aaron), Thomas and 3 great‑grandchildren.
He is also lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia, her five children—Bob Ironside (Linda) Jim Ironside (Marlene), Colleen Wilson (John), Kelly Staios (Steve), and Bill Ironside (Nancy)—along with their extended families. Tom will be greatly missed by his brother Jim and family.
Tom was born in Dundas, Ontario in 1932, to James Sr. and Margaret (Kernaghan). Tom dedicated 33 years of his life to the Guelph Police Force and retired as Deputy Chief. His many hobbies & interests included fishing, vacations with his family, travelling, maintaining a pristine yard and garden, playing Cribbage, and singing.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Riverside Glen’s Mapleton neighbourhood who provided kind and compassionate care to Tom over the last almost 3 years.
