Obituary of Michael David Horncastle
Michael "Big Mikey" David Horncastle, 61, of Guelph, Ontario, passed away on February 23, 2026. Born on April 28, 1964, Mike was the son of David (deceased) and Cheryl Horncastle.
Mike loved his cat, Stewie, who was his number one companion and brought him much comfort and joy. He also enjoyed taking care of the local birds, bunnies, and squirrels that visited his yard. Mike found happiness in a shirt with cut-off sleeves, a cold Budweiser beer, and his mom’s cabbage rolls and butter tarts. He loved fishing for pickerel and spent many summer days out on the boat. He was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed watching their games each season.
Mike is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Susan Horncastle, his devoted mother, Cheryl Horncastle, and his two sisters, Shelley Gibson (Horncastle) and Melanie Ellens (Horncastle). He is also survived by Shelley’s children, Stephanie (Joshua) Van Keulen, and their children Avery and William Van Keulen, Colton (Brittany) Cook, and Melanie’s daughters, Lauren (Yuri) Ellens Oliveira and Leah Ellens. Mike was preceded in death by his nephew, Tyler Cook.
He is also survived by his in-laws: Jessie Watt and the late Tommy Watt, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Paul Grant, and their daughters Kayla and Amanda (Joel).
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Grimsby Legion on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
Mike’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his big heart and even bigger personality.
