Obituary of Riccardo Guardiero

Guardiero, Riccardo (Carlo)

We are deeply saddened to share the peaceful passing of Riccardo Guardiero at Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday, February 19, 2026 at the age of 83. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Mirella Guardiero (nee Salvalaggio) for 56 years and adored father to Paolo and David, loving father-in-law to Jennifer (Bowers) and Silvia (Zulli). He was a treasured Nonno to his grandchildren Madison, Katherine, Marah and Simon. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.

Predeceased by his parents, Giovanni and Emilia Guardiero. Dear brother of Massimo and his wife Assunta; Mario and his wife Maria; Maria and her late husband Lino Simionato; the late Alfonso; the late Abelino and his wife Domenica; and the late Norma and her late husband Giordano Minotto. Carlo will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Carlo was born in Casacorba, Italy on April 3, 1942, to Giovanni and Emilia Guardiero (nee Antonello). Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1965, Carlo sent multiple love letters to his sweetheart Mirella. His charm, good looks and courtship proved to be a success – Carlo and Mirella married on August 30, 1969, at St. Joseph’s Church here in Guelph. It was the beginning of a beautiful and fulfilling life together.

Carlo was not one to demonstrate his affection, but his admiration and love for Mirella was undeniable - she was the love of his life. They enjoyed gardening together, watching soccer (FORZA JUVE!), visits to the cottage, and preparing for family gatherings and BBQ’s. Together, Carlo and Mirella nurtured a beautiful family.

Carlo was a humble and quiet natured man, yet somehow managed to be the ‘life of the party’. Friends and family embraced his humour and conversations, whatever the setting, people always gravitated towards him. Carlo was a man of integrity. He taught his boys to be kind, work hard, spend wisely, and of course build a cottage, make sausages and some fine homemade wine. He instilled these values in his sons, which have been passed down and inherited by his prize possessions, his grandchildren.

We will miss seeing Nonno open the front door as we pull up the driveway or grab his favourite coffee mug to enjoy a cup of “coffee” with his lunch. There are many treasured memories in each of our hearts. Carlo’s love and presence will be greatly missed.

The Guardiero family will receive their relatives and friends at the Brombal Funeral Home, 1 Delhi Street, Guelph on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held from St. Joseph’s Parish, 409 Paisley Road, Guelph on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Marymount Cemetery.

In memory of Carlo, donations to Hamilton Health Sciences or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
