Dear Aunt Joan up in heaven, may you rest in peace now that you have reunited with Uncle Allan and Andrew. Your strength, love and compassion are a true testament to the type of character you displayed throughout my life. You and Uncle Allan always made me feel comfortable in your presence. You will be greatly missed yet never forgotten. Every family gathering you both always engaged with me in conversation and showed genuine interest in my upbringing. As I am the middle child with an older brother Gary and a younger sister (Kate, also in heaven) you always made me feel seen. You and I had an inside joke about me being the middle child and you recently remembered “said joke” before you passed. I may not be son number 1 but I am number 1 son. I know it’s just a play on words but that’s the last memory of humour we both shared from 30 years ago til now. Rest in peace Aunt Joan and give everyone up in heaven a hug from me. See you on the other side xoxo

Aunt Joan, although we were not biological Aunt and Niece I always thought of you as my Aunt. Growing up I had so many happy memories of you, Uncle Alan and Andrew, I will cherish them always. All the family gatherings were especially the memorable ones.
Rest in peace.

Joan's husband, Alan, was a cousin to my husband Keith. Alan was a groomsman at our wedding. We enjoyed visits with Joan and Alan when we lived in Ontario and on visits to Florida and when Joan and Alan came out to BC for holidays. I remember going to Whistler and the beautiful photographs we took on top of the mountains there. Joan and Alan came to BC for my daughter's wedding which was very much appreciated. They were a lovely couple and Joan was very brave on her own after Alan passed. I know why she had such lovely friends and neighbours because she deserved it. I like to think she is reconciled now up in heaven with her son and husband.

Aunt Joan was a lovely woman who will live on in the fondest of memories. Even in the latter stages of her illness, her perspective was an inspiration. She carried herself with grace, wit, and deep love. I will miss her.
She was fortunate to have friends who became family — people who loved and supported her so faithfully. I know from my conversations with her how much she loved each of you in return. Thank you for the care and kindness you showed her. It brought real comfort to those of us who lived at a distance.
As a person of faith, I find peace in imagining her reunited with Alan — and especially with Andrew, taken far too soon. They were wonderful people, and I’m grateful to have called them family.
