Obituary of Stephen Wayne Berry
BERRY, Stephen Wayne
Passed peacefully at Hospice Wellington on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the age of 71. Devoted husband of Lynne for 47 years; proud and much loved father of Michael and Amy K., Bryan and Phoebe; loving Pop of Matthew, Hannah and Beckett; dear brother of Kevin and Mary and brother-in-law of Richard and Janice Horsley. Steve will be deeply missed by all his extended family and his many friends.
Steve was born on October 14, 1954–the day before Hurricane Hazel–in Guelph to parents Reg and Diane Berry. Steve committed his life to Christ at a young age and maintained a strong faith all his life. He served in his church in many different ways, but most importantly, regardless of where he was, Steve wanted others to see and know Jesus and God’s love through his interactions with them.
Steve enjoyed a long career as a teacher, a profession he knew he wanted to pursue from the time he was in 6th grade. Having grown up attending The Salvation Army church, he was involved in many musical ministries, music was also a big part of Steve’s early years as a teacher. Steve loved being with his students, helping them have fun while learning and seeing them “get it”.
One of Steve's greatest joys was interacting with others. He was affectionately known as the unofficial “Mayor of Suzanna Drive”.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to everyone involved in Steve’s care, including Dr. Tobin and Kayla, Dr. Hewak, Dr. Misterski, Dr. Califaretti and Christa, Dr. Graham and everyone at Hospice Wellington.
A Berry family celebration will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington or The Canadian Cancer Society in Steve’s honour would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
