Obituary of Luciano Case
CASE, Luciano
Passed away peacefully at home on Friday December 5, 2025, in his 90 th year surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of his biggest cheerleader Lisa, affectionately known as “My Capo”. Loving father of his fiercely protective daughters Tina Smit (Mark), Paola, and Michela Zamprogna (Lino). Cherished Nonno to Lucas,Theo (TPJ), Baylee, Emma, Gavin, Noah, and Vanessa—whom he adored and with his after-school pick-up driving, left them in a cold sweat.
Luciano (aka Rocky) is survived by his mother-in-law Jean McGarr (“Ma”), as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in Canada and Italy. He is predeceased by his infant daughter Serena, his parents Paolo and Maria Case, his siblings and their spouses Paola (Tony), Rina (Angelino), Fiore (Eda), Carlo (Elda), Berto (Anna), and Renato (Bianca), nieces and nephews, and his father-in-law Tom McGarr.
Luciano moved to Canada from Agordo, Italy when he was 18. He worked many jobs, but he found his passion in the bakery business. When working as a delivery driver at National Bakery he met “my sweet, my dear, my love”, Lisa. After marrying in 1971 they moved to Agordo, where they owned and operated a bakery and started their family. Moving back to Guelph in 1979, they opened Case Bakery. Many people said he had the “best buns” in town. Luciano and Lisa taught their daughters - not just by words but by actions - the
importance of family, working hard, being independent and swinging a hammer if needed.
A man of few words, Luciano spoke volumes through his expressions. His passions included stamp collecting, bowling, cheering for the Guelph Storm-Montreal Canadiens- Blue Jays, scratch tickets and enjoying time at Mohawk casino. His biggest and most important passion was spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was watching them in sports or watching them dance as he made music with his inhaler. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many nurses and caregivers at Bayshore and Closing the Gap - especially Lisa, Lal, Samuel, Emily, Larnie, Alma and Dr. Brodovsky for their exceptional care and support.
And finally, in the words of Luciano “Be happy, keep smiling” and “Viva Agordo”.
