James "Jim" Craig
October 13, 1936 – October 1, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Craig at his home, just shy of his 89th birthday.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan Craig, with whom he shared 63 years of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership, as well as by his parents, David and Peggy Craig, and his sister, Margaret Wilson.

A devoted father to June (Al) Ziegler, Jim was a loving grandfather to Sean Miller, Carissa (Barry) Phelan, Danielle (Will) Corbett, Kara Carder, and Jen (Eng) Ziegler, and a proud great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, and the many dear friends whose lives he brightened with his warmth and humour.

Born in Scotland, Jim carried his Scottish roots proudly and was known for his sharp wit and ‘cheeky’ sense of humour. A man devoted to service, Jim first served in the British Army and later as a firefighter in Scotland before immigrating to Canada. After he immigrated to Canada Jim dedicated 26 years of his life to the Guelph Fire Department, retiring as Captain. Following in his father’s footsteps, he also served his community as a proud Mason.

Jim faced his battle with lung cancer with the same courage, resilience, and quiet strength that defined his life and career as a firefighter.
He was a long-standing and proud member of the Guelph Army, Navy & Air Force Club, where he held the distinction of being the oldest serving member. He was also a cherished presence at the West Montrose Family Campground, where his kindness, laughter, and storytelling were enjoyed by all who knew him.

Jim’s spirit will live on in the stories, smiles, and love of everyone whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Brombal Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Guelph ArmyNavy & Air Force Club, where friends and family are welcome to share memories and celebrate Jim’s life.
