Obituary of Johanna Klaasje den Drijver
Johanna den Drijver (Noteboom) has completed her extraordinary journey after a valiant battle with cancer, passing peacefully at Hospice Wellington on September 13, 2025, in her 88 year. Make no mistake – she fought with unwavering courage until her final moments, even declaring to her doctors, "I'm still kicking." Now, reunited with her beloved husband Dirk (2007) and son Richard (2008), we trust they're caring for our treasured Mom and Oma as devotedly as we did here.
Mom joined the Dutch Air Force to proudly serve her country, before immigrating to Canada to marry her childhood sweetheart and start a family.
We affectionately called her "Sergeant Major" for good reason. Johanna didn't just teach values – she demanded them. Respect, hard work, integrity, diligence, and acceptance weren't optional in her household; they were requirements. Her fierce directness might have intimidated some, but those who understood her recognized this approach as her greatest gift. She offered unvarnished truth when others might offer comfortable lies, genuine wisdom when others gave empty platitudes, and unwavering support that knew no limits. Her reminder that she and Dad worked fields at 4 am before school – "so suck it up princess" – wasn't harsh; it was preparation for life's realities from someone who lived them.
Johanna's enduring influence now flows through devoted daughters, five loving grandchildren, and eight precious great-grandchildren who will never forget her candy-filled jar or her love-filled heart. Everyone fortunate enough to be touched by her life carries forward her exceptional tenacity, sharp wit, and resolute determination. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jane, Pat, Jay, Sandra, Kelly and Jay. Also to the Hospice Wellington staff and volunteers who honored her fierce independence until the very end – just as she would have demanded.
Cremation has taken place. Johanna has requested that no service take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated.
