Obituary of David Ross Pocock

David Ross Pocock

May 3, 1934 – September 13, 2025

It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the passing of David Pocock on September

13, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in 1934 to Rev. Lawrence Pocock and Patience (Ross), David grew up with strong family

values that carried him through his entire life. He was the beloved husband of the late Doreen

(Kirk). Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, a partnership filled with love,

laughter, and shared adventures.

David was a devoted father to Nancy (married to John)  and Janet (married to Ian), and a proud

grandfather to Jacob, Evelyn, Alexander(wife Danielle) and Elizabeth(husband Clark). He is also

survived by his sister Pauline and brother-in-law John Berridge, sister-in-law Wendy Kirk, and

was cherished by many nieces and nephews with whom he enjoyed close and joyful

relationships.

A graduate of Western University, David began his teaching career at just 18 years old in

Callander. He went on to teach in Collingwood before spending 30 dedicated years at John F.

Ross High School in Guelph. He was respected not only as a teacher but also as a mentor who

touched countless lives.

Those who knew David will remember his kindness, his thoughtful nature, and his gift for

making people laugh. David grew up spending many happy years at the family cottage on Lake

Simcoe where he met Doreen. Together, they shared countless happy memories, welcoming

family and friends for laughter, games, time on the beach and good food.

David was an active member of St. George’s Church and gave generously of his time through

volunteer work in the community, especially at the Evergreen Senior Centre. A wonderful cook,

his infamous glazed almonds and homemade chocolates will be fondly missed. He loved playing

bridge with Doreen, cards and games with his grandchildren, and was an avid reader who never

missed a Toronto Star crossword. He cheered faithfully for the Blue Jays, Hockey and the CFL.

David’s warmth and generosity of spirit will leave a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed by

all who knew him.

Special thanks to Bayshore, GW Homecare, and Hospice Wellington for the compassionate care

they provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Wellington in his memory.
