Obituary of Douglas Russell Gilbert

Passed away suddenly at Guelph General Hospital on Monday September 1 st , 2025 at the age of 78. Doug was a man who loved deeply, laughed loudly, danced fearlessly and embraced the role of the provider and protector to family, friends and those in need. Doug would say, “I don’t know everyone, everyone knows me.” His larger-than-life personality and friendly characteristics would mean that no matter where you were, he would strike up a conversation with an acquaintance, friend or complete stranger at any given moment, and relive the conversations with those waiting in the wings on the drive home. Beloved Husband of Ida Gilbert (nee Gutta); loving Dad of Dion (Tara) and Dwayne (Leanne); loving Step-Dad of Furella (Hans); and proud Grandpa of Lucas. Douglas will be deeply missed by his siblings, their families and his many friends. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28 Norfolk St, Guelph at 10:30a.m. Reception to follow.
