I am so very sorry for your loss. I have known Peter for almost 20 years, first as a DVM student and more recently as a dear colleague. We also both had dogs with mobility issues and would frequently run into each other at physiotherapy visits. I will always remember Peter as a kind, gentle, selfless and passionate individual who always had everyone's best interests at heart. He engaged with all in such a genuine and compassionate manner. I know he has a special place in the hearts of so many people at OVC on which he had a lasting and positive influence, myself included.

Very sorry to hear this news. This was an incredibly special man. I am sure that I speak for many when I say that he was one of the most important people in my development as a Veterinarian. Although I have been on the other side of the country for almost 30 years he is one of the people that cross my mind with regularity. His impact cannot be measured but it reverberates through generations. May we hold true to the principles that he embodied. Thank you Dr. Conlon for all that you gave of yourself to us and the Veterinary community. Val Maks OVC’97

Peter was a friend, mentor, lab supervisor, and neighbour for many years. As my mother used to tell me "Oh, your friend Peter came by and said such nice things about my roses while walking that funny little dog." (She was biased to dachshunds - also funny little dogs). I learned three very important things from Peter: 1) how to do a bronchoalveolar lavage; 2) how to spot a neutrophil from a mile away; and 3) bench science research was not to be my long term career objective! Over the decades after my DVM, I heard many kind comments about Peter's patience and kind consideration for undergraduate and graduate students alike.
Olivia and Andrew, and to your mom, please know you have my sympathies and many good memories of your father. He is missed.

I was a student of Dr. Peter Conlon, and his warm, steady presence in the OVC community was felt throughout his tenure. I will always remember him bringing balloons and McDonald's for Ed's birthday; those small acts showed just how much love and care he had for those around him. My sincere condolences to the family.

Tonight I learned of Peter's sudden passing and am so sad to hear it. I worked with Peter at OVC from 2000 to 2013 and always found him to be so kind and gracious. My fondest memory happened while I was in the midst of a United Way fundraising campaign on campus one year and in order to get the students involved in fundraising, we decided we would ask a member of the administration to volunteer to have their head shaved by the class who raised the most money. Peter very happily stepped up to the challenge. Needless to say the students had very little experience shaving anything and a lot of fun carrying out the task. Peter laughed along with everyone as the students took turns and eventually completed the job with only a few shave burns left behind. This event was indicative of Peter and his interest in the student experience. Being part of an event like this was an easy yes for him. I am grateful to have known him as the kind person he was. My condolences to his family and friends, he will be missed by many. Jennifer Beehler

I was very saddened to learn of Peter’s passing. I had the privilege of working closely with him as a Peer Helper during my time at OVC. He was such a kind and thoughtful person, and a true pioneer in recognizing the importance of mental health in our profession. I still share his phrase, “a little bit of stress is okay, but distress is not,” when discussing mental health with colleagues and students.
Thank you, Peter, for all you taught us. Your impact on the profession was profound. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

We were fortunate to have Dr. Conlon as our dean of student affairs when we first arrived at the OVC. Within the first week of school, Dr. Conlon knew everyone by their first name. He was a huge part in making the OVC feel like a safe community for all the students. Dr. Conlon’s kind and supportive nature had a positive impact on a whole generation of veterinarians.
The veterinary community has suffered a great loss.
With our heartfelt condolences,
OVC class of 2010

So sad to hear of Peter’s passing. I grew up at 100 Queen Street, right next door to Peter. I remember when Peter moved in with Winston and family. Peter was a wonderful neighbour. My mother, Pat Howitt, always enjoyed seeing him as did I. I remember he helped out when I found an injured bird in the road many years ago. I enjoyed meeting his dogs over the years and just recently met Rupert. I live nearby now on King Street and will miss seeing him in the neighbourhood and having a chat. My sincere condolences to Andrew and Olivia and the entire family.

I first met Dr. Peter Conlon when I started at veterinary school in 1994. He was one of the first professors we met, and he gave us an inspiring and unforgettable welcome to the OVC, setting us all at ease immediately. He taught pharmacology to our class and was a great mentor to our class throughout our time at OVC and after even graduation, remembering names even decades after! I will remember Peter fondly - he has been an integral part of my veterinary journey as one of my very esteemed colleagues. I know I speak for many when I say he'll be missed by the entire OVC and veterinary community. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
