Obituary of Darlene Margaret Porterfield

Margaret Darlene Porterfield, Darlene, wife, mother, mama bear, nana, sister, aunt, friend, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday June 7th, 2025, at Guelph General Hospital. She was 69 years old.

She was the loving and devoted mother to Darryl (Lindsay), Jennifer (Jeff) and Ian (Vanessa). She was the best nana to Celina, Colin, Ellie, Savannah, Sloan, Oaklyn, Bodhi, Ripley and Athena.

She is survived by her siblings, Brian (Joyce), Bill (Sue), Barb (Billy). She was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Don, her mother Eileen, her brothers James, Scott, Dale, her sister Donna, and her mother and father in law, Margaret and Don Porterfield.

Darlene was the caretaker and family maker. She made anyone and everyone feel welcome, fed them a home cooked meal, and left them in stitches from her hilarious comments and jokes. She cared for many children over the years, and was always there when anyone needed a hand or some advice.

She will be missed for her unconditional love, her Darlene-isms we all laugh about and roll our eyes about, but most of all, her presence. She was unwavering and steadfast.

Darlene’s life will be honoured with a private family gathering and internment at Elora St Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Schmidt, Dr. Bishop, the entire Guelph ICU nursing staff, the fourth floor nursing staff and Groves Hospital for the amazing care they provided to Darlene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Guelph General Hospital - ICU Department or Groves Memorial Hospital.
