Obituary of Pearl Thompson
Pearl Thompson, in her 96th year, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Place in Cambridge, on June 1st, 2025. Born in Guelph on June 18th, 1929, to Stanley and Maud Schofield, she lived a very full and rich life. She was married to Harold Charles Norris (Charlie) for 43 years until his death in 1992 and was the much-loved mother of three daughters, Heather Marshall (John), Robin-Lee Norris (David Halls), and Wendy Smith (Ian). She adored being Grandma to Jason Marshall (Sheena), Ursula Marshall (d. 2019), Crystal Brousseau, and Braiden Brousseau.
Pearl met Len Thompson on a seniors’ bus trip and had a long second marriage to him until his death in 2017 and was a caring stepmother to his sons Daniel (Ramona Effinger) and Keith (Erika Palfi) and proud grandmother to their children.
She was predeceased by her three siblings, Joyce McGee, Stanley (Red) Schofield, and Nancy Loucks and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, many of whom she visited out west whenever she got a chance.
Pearl wore many hats from being a qualified tailor, trained cake decorator, knitter extraordinaire, pianist, organist, and office manager to name just a few. Pearl was also Mother Pearl, Grandma Pearl and Polo to so many whose lives she touched during her long lifetime. She had a caring shoulder for family, staff, friends, and those who came into her orbit in so many ways. She listened often, dispensed advice (whether asked for or not!) and made the world a little brighter with her sweaters and always with her Grandma Pearl slippers. In her last few days, family members heard from the amazing staff at St. Luke’s what they heard so often during Pearl’s lifetime- she was feisty during her more than 4 years there and kept everyone on their toes with her determination to do it her way. Pearl was feisty to the end.
Pearl will be interred in a private family service. Memorial contributions to the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Society or the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated.
