Obituary of Kenneth Douglas Hill
HILL, Kenneth Douglas
Surrounded by the love of his family, Ken passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the age of 67. Ken was the cherished son of Shirley and the late Ross Hill; proud and loving father of Matthew (Brandon), Sydney (Curtis) and Shelby (Scott); and caring brother of Gord and Rick (Deb). Ken’s warmth and humour will be deeply missed by his nephews Ryan (Maggie) and Trevor (Jaclyn), his great-nephews Austin, Connor and Arthur, and all those who knew and loved him.
Ken grew up in Chateauguay, Quebec, where his love of sports took root at an early age. Excelling in hockey, baseball, football and golf, by the age of 15 he had followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming an ice official refereeing hockey games throughout the Lac St. Louis Region and Greater Montreal area. A passionate linesman, it wasn’t long before he was performing these duties in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, ultimately culminating with an assignment to work the lines in the Memorial Cup final. Although his reputation and success led to an invitation from the NHL to participate in their training camp for referees and linesmen, after two years of training Ken made the difficult choice to choose a more lucrative path in sales in the paper and printing industry. After 35 years in the field, he used his final working years to join his close friend Frank installing security and camera systems.
A memorial gathering to share stories, love and memories of Ken will take place on Saturday, June 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Brombal Funeral Home in Guelph Ontario.
In his memory, donations to the Guelph General Hospital would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
