Obituary of Neil John O'Gorman

O’Gorman, Neil John at 68 years of age in the early hours of May 26, 2025 at Hospice Wellington.  Beloved husband of Margaret for 41 years.  Neil was predeceased by his parents Matthew and Pauline (Wall) O’Gorman and his brother, John.  Neil is survived by his sister Deirdre, one niece and several nephews.  Neil was the eternal optimist who could always find a silver lining in every cloud (often with tongue in cheek).  He had a very unique ability to connect with everyone he met.  Neil was an avid fan of all sports, particularly horse racing and baseball.  He was also a music aficionado.  He enjoyed cooking and often supplied friends and family with “Neil’s Meals on Wheels”.  Neil’s career as a printer began at The Windsor Star and he cherished the life lessons he learned from his mentors at the newspaper.  His quick wit and ability to put things in perspective with joy and laughter will be missed by family and friends alike, especially his bowling buddies and ‘pool pals’ from the West End Rec Centre.

Cremation has taken place. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 409 Paisley Road, Guelph.  Visitation will take place at 10:00 am at the Church, one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.  Interment will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army, Royal City Mission or the Guelph Food Bank would be appreciated. 

I am grateful for all the support Neil and I have received from family, friends, the medical professionals at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario Health at Home Care Coordinator Melanie, nurses Laura and Leslie from Bayshore, PSWs Simon, Nirmala and Aprita from CarePartners, OT Taylor, Fr. Bergsma from St. Joseph Church and most especially, Dr. Shannon Hutton.  I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the extraordinary staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care of Neil during his final days.  Margaret O’Gorman
