Obituary of David Meyer Kozinets
KOZINETS, David M.
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of David M. Kozinets on April 17, 2025, at the age of 95. He died peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital. David was born May 1st, 1929, in Toronto. He was the 2nd child of 5. Predeceased by his loving wife Shirley who passed away in 2011. They met following graduation from high school and were soon engaged and married for 61 years. Survived by his two sons Steven (Susan) and Harvey (Cindy) and his loving granddaughter Stacey (Louis). Also survived by his sister -in-law Esther of Arizona
Predeceased by his siblings Yette (Morris), Michael (Anne) Irving and Victoria.
David and his brothers were known in Toronto as the local “Paper Boys” and delivered 1000 papers a day everyday of the week except Sunday!
As a young man David came to Arthur from Toronto in 1950 to work in retail, after marrying the boss’s daughter Shirley. The family clothing store was known as it remains today Sussman’s of Arthur. David remembered getting lost on the way to Arthur, they reached the 4 corners and there was no sign. He remembers thinking to himself if he ever became in a position of power in town, he would get a sign for Arthur (and he did!).
After many expansions during the 1970’s and 1980’s Sussman’s dominated the town and provided numerous job opportunities for local individuals. This put the town of Arthur on the map. In this time period both Steve and Harvey joined the existing business and were considered the boys under their father’s leadership!!! Sussman’s of Arthur became one of the premier clothing stores in Ontario.
David was definitely an ICON!!!! A true visionary!!!!
His other passion was politics!!! He was first elected to the Arthur Council in the late 1960’s. He served as Counselor and Reeve for many years. During his tenure as Reeve, he brought Bell Thread to Arthur as well as the completion of a municipal parking lot, a new library, retirement home, medical centre, arena complex and fire hall. His dedication and commitment to Arthur was unrelenting.
David became involved in the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce and served a term as President at both organizations.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Graveside service on Tuesday April 22, 2025, at 2PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Guelph.
In honor of David ‘s memory please make donations to Hospice Wellington and the Arthur Lions Club.
