Obituary of Joan Theresa Ireland

IRELAND, Joan Theresa

October 22, 1938 – February 13, 2025

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Ireland (née

Jewell) at the age of 86 on February 13, 2025. Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by

family, at the Guelph General Hospital after a brief illness.

Mom is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, David Ireland (d. 2022); her sister and

best friend, Marilyn Langlois, who predeceased her by only 12 days; brother-in-law Robert

Langlois (d. 2020); sister-in-law Patricia Wettlaufer (d. 2024); brother-in-law Ken Wettlaufer (d.

2022); and her beloved parents, Harry and Bertha Jewell.

Mom will be dearly missed by her six devoted children: Mary-Ann (Tim) Kiely, Bill (Tara),

Shelley (Joe) Monaco, Steven (Shelva), Michael (Ladonna), and Patrick (Colleen). Grammy, as

she was affectionately known, is lovingly remembered by her 15 adoring grandchildren: Lindsay,

Claire (Brad), Eric (Nicki), Nolan, Alex (Carlie), Katie (Ben), Sarah (Marc), Natalie (Adam),

Alison, Leah, Liam, Ethan, Ainslie, Zachary, and Chloe (Cole), as well as her 4½ great-

grandchildren: Olivia, Emily, Anna, Isla, and soon-to-be Baby Kiely.

Mom is also survived by her in-laws Bob and Sharon Ireland, Peter and Jean Ireland, as well as

many nieces and nephews.

Mom lived a life of love, strength, and generosity, all with an unwavering Catholic faith. She was

the former president of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s League, worked with Meals on

Wheels for many years, and volunteered with numerous charities.

Mom’s love and light will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her beautiful soul will

forever be remembered, and her kindness, compassion, and joy will continue to inspire all who

were touched by her presence. Her memory will be forever cherished.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors on the 5th-

floor ICU at Guelph General Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Mom’s

final days.
