Obituary of Evelyn Mary Corstorphine

CORSTORPHINE, Evelyn Mary
March 16, 1937 – January 20, 2025

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Evelyn Corstorphine on January
20, 2025, in her 88 th year.
Loving mother of Joeann Argue and Alison Argue. Loving Gramma of Joshua
Majorossy (Melinda), Nikolas Argue and Kestrel Montgomery. Loving Great Gramma of
Kestrel’s two sons, Ezra and Iko. Evelyn is predeceased by her sister Joan Anderson
(William). Very fondly remembered by many other family members and friends.
Evelyn grew up in Guelph during the second World War during which time her father,
James Corstorphine served as an anti-aircraft gunner while her mother, Elizabeth
Corstorphine (nee Smith) and Evelyn’s beloved granny cared for her and her sister,
Joan. Evelyn and Joan are survived by their younger sister Katherine Spinelli (Tony)
who was born after the war had ended. Evelyn worked in the horticulture department at
the University of Guelph early in her career, and later for various lawyers in Guelph and
Elora. She was fortunate to be able to travel with friends and family throughout her life
and was always eager to learn about the cultures and cuisines of many of the countries
she visited.
Evelyn loved her time by the water, her time in the park and her time in the kitchen. She
loved to spend time with her very special grandchildren and take them on make believe
adventures only they could imagine. She also loved to cook, and we were rewarded
with a wealth of delectable recipes she poured her heart into preparing.
Evelyn was a good friend to so many, listening with her heart and always respecting
whatever anyone wanted or needed to talk about. She was very smart and seemed to
know a little something about almost everything.
A special thanks go out to the staff at the Guelph General Hospital for their care in
Evelyn’s last few days.
Cremation has taken place. At Evelyn’s request, there will be a private celebration of
her life in the spring when the paths are clear for walking, the flowers begin to appear,
and the birds begin to sing again.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Guelph General Hospital would be greatly
appreciated.
