I met Lucille Cuevas in the mid-1980s, and we bonded almost immediately. She, and her husband, both librarians, were essential contributors to the ;Friends of Harambee literacy group in Ottawa at the time, and later the Equatoria Group, and I was a volunteer with both groups as well, btringing my expertise as an elementary teacher with the former Ottawa Board of Education.
Lucille was a quiet voice of information and a wonderful story teller, particularly of Black History throughout the world. When she was speaking children were enthralled, and adults really listened, too.
Along with her professional expertise, Lucille was one of the kindest people I have ever met. She never put herself first above others, and she made me feel so appreciated and special. I feel so honoured to have known her over the years that we worked together with several others strivinng to share the multi-cultheral literature at all levels that is available across the country, but not really known to many.
Lucille was a fount of knowledge, and she and her sister, Mairuth Sarsfield, were amazing women of vision. They are both missed by those who had the priviledge of knowing them and working with them.
My sincere condolences to the Cuevas family for the loss of such a dearly loved and marvelous person as Lucille.
